from Patti Rogness, Andrew’s wife (2016):

Andrew and I met when we were camp counselors at a Lutheran camp in California during the summer while attending college. Andrew went to Augustana College in Sioux Falls where he majored in International Studies and Philosophy. He had thought he would have a political trajectory to his life work but during his junior year he made the decision to attend the Seminary and become a parish pastor. This is what he did for the rest of his life. He loved it and he did it well.

I had married ‘Wooly’ but when he was finished with seminary and took his first ‘official’ job, he reclaimed his given name of Andrew. When we moved to Madison WI our moving boxes had ‘Patti and Wooly’ written on them. Many of the folks helping us move wondered who this ‘Wooly’ was. Andrew had a wonderful experience at our Madison church and spent 24 years in the same parish. We raised our two sons there.

In 2000 we moved to the Twin Cities where Andrew served a church in Roseville, built our cabin, loved being near our two adult boys and their wives and enjoyed the proximity to the BWCAW – his first love. He chronicled some of this love in his book Crossing Boundary Waters.

We have added four beautiful children to our family since Andrew’s death. Life goes on. We miss him greatly.

from Andrew’s obituary, Pioneer Press (7/4/2010):

Loved life and has gone exploring. He is survived by his wife, Patti; his sons, Joel (Louise) and Stephen (Sarah); his yet-to-be-born granddaughter; his sister Martha; his brothers Mike, Steve, and Peter, and 6.8 billion others. May he find adventure, answers, and new mysteries in which to revel. Visitation Monday 7/5, 5PM-7PM at Prince of Peace in Roseville; Memorial Service Tues. 7/6 at 2PM at St. Anthony Park Lutheran Church in St. Paul. Memorials preferred.
